If you have a moment, please take some time to go and vote for my Mamavation application!  You can see my application video here, and you can “vote” for me by heading to Twitter and tweeting this: Hey @bookieboo! I want @SkinnySushi to be the next #Mamavation Mom. She has my support! http://bit.ly/zqUxa. The finalists will be chosen on July 5, after which point I will stop harassing you with these messages… unless, of course, I AM a finalist… in which case I will harass you with new messages.  And cookies?

Morningstar Farms chipotle black bean burgerssource

On a recent shopping trip we spotted these chipotle black bean burgers from Morningstar.  Honestly, I tend to avoid Morningstar stuff as I find the texture is generally a little off and the taste is not enough to make up for it.  My husband and I are loyal fans of the flame grilled Bocas, so we tried these based only on the recommendations of several bloggers.

Each burger has 210 calories, 7g fat, 24g carbs, 7g fiber, 2g sugar, and 17g protein.  They are just the right size to fit on a sandwich thin, so we had ours that way, dressed with ketchup and mustard like we would a beef burger.

Was it good?  Well…  good enough?  I’d say it was decent.  The flavor is great, rich and spicy, but the texture is NOTHING like a real burger.  If you aren’t a meat eater to begin with, I imagine this won’t be a problem for you.  For us, it was unsettling.  I think they’d be much better off in a wrap or, as my husband suggested, crumbled into a chip dip.  That way you’d get the flavor without the texture.

So… I doubt we’ll buy these again, but I will at least be willing to finish the box we have in the freezer.
