30 Day Slimdown RESULTS

So here they are, my progress pics for the end of the 30 Day Slimdown Jillian Michaels challenge.  I’ve spent all month excited to take these pictures and then when it came time to actually do it I found myself nervous.  What if you couldn’t see a difference?

30 Day Slimdown resultsYou can click to make it bigger.  Honestly, I don’t see a difference.  I don’t see ANY change at all, and I am SO frustrated by it.  I’ve never worked out so much or so hard as I have in the last month, and I see no change.  I’ve lost five pounds, but I lost five pounds the month before too, when I was working out significantly less.  I feel like what little change there is does not justify how hard I worked this month.

Am I doing something wrong?  I was so sure I’d see huge changes, significant slimming… and instead, I see nothing.  Yes, the measurements look better… but this is all just so SLOW.  I know it’s slow sometimes, but I feel like it’s slow all the time lately.  Other people are flying past me in their inch/weight loss totals without working nearly as hard.  I had big hopes for the Jillian challenge because she promises such huge results.  I watch the stupid shows and see people losing fifty pounds or more in two months.  I’ve lost just under 35 pounds in six months… and it seems like the loss is getting slower.

I know I should be focusing on the positives.  I know I should be thinking about the fact that I feel stronger, that my husband says he sees real change, that I have lost a good number of inches this month.  I know I should be thinking about the fact that I am seeing consistent losses, week after week, since starting this huge workout push.  I’m just having a hard time with it I guess, since I want to see MORE BIGGER BETTER NOW.

So I’m asking for a little help today.  I need you to help boost my spirits.  Tell me about how this happened to you but you reached your fitness goals anyway.  Tell me something funny, even if it’s totally unrelated.  Give me something to smile about while I sift through the inane conversations of the ridiculous gaggle of winter birds who’ve descended on my previously quiet, originally empty corner of Starbucks despite the rest of the place being starkly empty.

  2. I notice a difference! Look at your posture in that second pic vs. the first one! (stronger abs, shoulders, back, etc)

    Plus, even though it’s 5 lbs I think the main thing to focus on is the 5 INCHES. HELLO!? That is awesome! Please don’t be so hard on yourself, I think you are doing a fantastic job!

    and something funny for you? My hubby took the boys to the pool today and he said that on the way in he said Hi to a women who gave him a weird look. He realized a few minutes later they entered the pool thru the ladies locker room. On the way out, my son told him they were supposed to go on the other side. Thank god that lady wasn’t naked, lol!

  3. It’s not a huge difference, but your butt is definitely smaller. You look more toned all over. Don’t beat yourself up. Sometimes it just takes a while to see changes. You feel stronger and that’s what you should focus on. The other changes will come. I’m a dyed-in-the-wool scale worshipper and I know how easy it is to get wrapped up in the numbers. Just step back and try not to think about the numbers for a while and focus on how you feel. Hang in there – I think you’re doing great!

  4. NO !! I see a MAJOR difference ! I looked at the photos first, without looking at inches + lbs loss, and see definite results… your arms have much more definition, your legs too, and your shorts fit differently.

    Please don’t get discouraged; keep going, and YES focus on the positive things you can see or feel – better endurance, increased strength, how much easier it is now than when you began… and listen to that smart husband of yours too!! 🙂

    I am just returning to running after an injury that kept me from doing much at all; I am frustrated all the time by my lack of endurance or speed. Instead of comparing myself to how I used to be or how fast I want to go, I am trying to keep going by comparing myself to yesterday. Last week. It is getting easier. I am getting it back.

    I know how you are feeling right now… but seriously? you are doing AWESOME. I have no reason to tell you this… I could have looked + left… but you ARE different in the after photos. and think of how different they’ll be NEXT month. 🙂

  5. The first thing I noticed is your arms!! as well as your butt. It is a difference.. but a lot of work!!! First off I want to say that you and I are almost the same weight and body shape, etc right now, maybe we can help keep each other motivated!! Second, I have to say that I gotten similar if not better results from 30 days of Pilates. Have you ever tried Pilates? I found it relaxing and enjoyable as opposed to something I dread that kicks my butt!! I get muscle tone, strength, and definition in my legs, butt, thighs, abs, etc it is VERY good for your core muscles.

      I’ve done Pilates before and loved it. Maybe I will try a 30 days of Pilates challenge next! Any suggestions on a particular program or DVD?

  6. I agree with the above comments, I see definite definition in your arms, stomach and thighs – and butt. I think you look great and are obviously getting stronger and more toned every step you take.

    I know the weight loss thing is slow going, I’m almost with you neck and neck – I’ve lost 37.5 pounds in six months, and I’m not nearly as toned up as you are.

    Please keep your chin up, H, you are doing this the right way and the healthy way, and you are inspiring so many along the way.

    It’s hard not to focus on the numbers, I agree – but you are doing this, every little change you make if because of you, and your choices.

    That’s bloody amazing!

  7. I notice a difference too! You seem more toned. Remember… the people who lose weight rapidly, usually gain it back rapidly too!

  8. I Definitely see changes! Jillian kicks butt! I know as she’s been kicking mine now for a couple weeks with her darn 30 day shred;-) The closer to goal, the harder it can be, so hang in there!

  10. As said above you can DEFINITELY see changes! Way to go! As far actual weight loss, you are definitely on track. You are losing at a healthy rate. 1-1.5 lbs per week is best. Slow, I know! But it truly is better for you.
    Weight loss is about 80% what you eat and about 20% exercise. Weight management (maintaining) is more about exercise. Keep that in mind 🙂

  11. You look like two different people in the two sets of photos — seriously. You’re just much smaller overall…look at the space between your legs now! You lost your butt!

    If you’ve really only lost five pounds, girl, you have changed *a lot* of what you had to muscle…and I know you know that muscle weighs more. You’re looking great — and if you’re feeling great too, well that’s what *truly* matters. You should be very proud of yourself — 35 pounds in six months is AWESOME.
